Jon Bax was born on the 30th April 1947 and completed his schooling at St Andrew's College, Grahamstown and his tertiary education at the University of Cape Town. He completed his Articles of Clerkship with the firm W.E. Moore & Son, Cape Town and Randall & Bax, East London. He was admitted as an Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary Public in 1971. In 1972 he was admitted as a partner in Randall and Bax. During 1976 the firm amalgamated with Norton Gale and Kingon and Addelson Kirk and Moolman to form The Bax Partnership.

Jon practices mainly in the fields of Conveyancing, Local Authority and Notarial work. He is a Mediator and Arbitrator of the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa (IMSSA). He has also served on the East London Attorneys Association. Apart from his legal work, he has been an active member of Round Table and Rotary having been a Chairman and President of these organizations respectively. He is a member of the Beacon Bay Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He is married to Pam and has two daughters and two son
